Charles (Chick) and Marian Skinner attended school in Poland, NY, and graduated from there in 1951. We were married in August of 1952. We have five children, all grown with families of their own. During this last decade, we discovered Chick has Scottish roots and comes from a sept of Clan Gregor. We are attempting to trace his family back to Scotland. Active in the American Clan Gregor Society for six years, we have accumulated Scottish attire in the MacGregor tartan for both of us. We decided to look into his family genealogy and see how far back we could go.
Chick, also, has direct roots to Clan Sutherland. His paternal great-mother was Harriet Sutherland, from one of Scotland's oldest clans. His maternal grand-father comes directly from Dublin, Ireland. With so much history in the family, this is the reason for our search.
Our decision to attach ourselves to Clan Gregor was made when we were volunteering in Colonial Williamsburg, VA, when we discovered Skinner was a sept of MacGregor. It was later that we became aware of Clan Sutherland, and by then we already had invested quite a bit of money into our MacGregor tartans.
We have traveled to Cape Breton, Canada several times and to Scotland once. We'd love to go again when world events quiet down. If anyone can furnish information on our family, we'd appreciate it. Feel free to contact us.
